STRANGE LOT – Go Have A Dream
Austin’s Strange Lot share “Go Have A Dream,” the second single from their self-titled LP, out August 14th on Greenway Records. The video is directed by Stellina Stampouli. It follows lead single “Nobody Seems To Do The Math” and arrives after the band’s US run supporting Melody’s Echo Chamber.
The album has a good backstory behind it. In 2022, frontman Dominic Mena found himself without a band and close to walking away from the project entirely. Instead he went back to working alone, writing and recording nearly thirty demos in a month. That material caught the ear of Alex Maas of The Black Angels, who came in to produce and spent the following year helping shape the record. Jim Eno of Spoon mixed several key tracks, including “5AM,” “Timeline Drops,” “Hatin’ You,” and “Always Alone,” and Howie Weinberg mastered. For a psych record that could easily have coasted on genre markers, the credits suggest someone was thinking carefully about sound at every stage.
“Go Have A Dream” sits in that zone between fuzzed-out psych guitar and shoegaze atmosphere, with crunchy synth textures underneath and a rhythm section that keeps things moving rather than drifting. Strange Lot have been building up serious live credibility, direct support for The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Kikagaku Moyo, Boogarins, headlining stage at Levitation and Austin Psych Fest, so the scale of the production makes sense.
